Playing with the Utah teapot

We needed a fun image to show in the 404 error webpage of our lab at Purdue University. My advisor came up with the idea to show a broken Utah teapot, and I attempted my best to realize his idea with Blender. Here is my final result:

Animation of the explosion

I also rendered a one second animation of the Teapot during the explosion.

Initial idea

Here is the initial idea we had, but unfortunately, it’s hard to recognize the teapot. Besides, I had to break the teapot manually and it is complicated to get realistic geometry and collisions with Blender. In this picture, you can see that some of the faces and vertices disappeared.
